Ute Roller Cover
The ute roller cover consists of an aluminum curtain that rolls up into a small canister that is located next to the cabin. The canister is 165mm x 165mm in dual cab Utes, slightly larger in single cab Utes. The curtain is spring loaded (just like a garage roll-a-door) so that when you unlock the cover it quickly rolls down the tray into the canister. The spring tension can be adjusted according to your requirements.
There is a top quality flush mounted lock in the center of the cover at the tailgate end, and when the key is activated, two locking bars slide into either side – making it almost impossible to jimmy open.
The roller cover is water resistant. Water runs to both sides of the Cover and is collected in the channels of the side panels, and then drains away down four drain tubes that are installed internally. There is an inspection hatch at the front of the Cover which can be opened to remove leaves etc that may have “rolled” into the canister. This hatch also allows re-tensioni of the spring. However, removal of the hatch does not allow access to the load tray – thereby preventing theft from this area.

History of the Ute Roller Cover
The origin of Roller Covers came from a safety concern in developing countries. Stopping at a red light became a safety hazard as thieves and criminals would jump into the cab of the vehicle and either steal the equipment or threaten the driver and take the vehicle – they were known as “red light bandits”.
Amiel Smith is an Entrepreneur that started the production of Ute Roller covers as he was a victim of theft whilst carrying tools for a job he was carrying out at his wife’s property business. He then came up with the concept of Roll Tops Security Cover.
Amiel thought the prototype he made and installed into his vehicle was enough to prevent criminals and thieves, however, two men leapt onto the Roller Cover and forced it to break by jumping on it repeatedly, broke the cover and preceded to steal his equipment. He was sent back to the drawing board and redesigned the covers to withstand weight and pressure.
